I live in a retirement home. This Blog is because I have both a lot of time and not, so I have read others blog, and thought they were not so interesting, and then maybe there is a little room for me here on the Internet also.

Old Man Gilbert: Good evening Internetpeople! My name is Finn Willy Gilbert. I am an old man, 90 years, who is spending my probably last days at a retirement home in the east of Oslo, that is in Norway. To get older does not mean that you end having opinions about almost everything. It just increases when you get older. On my Blog I will write about my days here, and also try to teach you all I know, while I still can. My grand children have taught me about computers, not all about computers of course, and my English I have learned sailing with ships when I was much younger, since English is not my native language, please forgive any errors, I do not mean to offend anyone. Old Man Gilberts Fashion Tips:

A soft hat over combed hair with pomade in it, always bring a comb.

A nice suit with decent press in the pants, use braces, so the pants keeps up, waistline preferably above the belly button.

Black socks and black shoes, remember to polish, always.

A clean ironed / pressed shirt.

A nice vest with small pockets for coins, and maybe your watch.

A tie or bow tie.

A clean handkerchief, to lend to women in need.

A watch, so you can always tell the time when people ask.

A cane, or at least an umbrella, we live in Norway and no women appreciate rain on their dress.

Be clean and proper and look at pictures of Humphrey Bogart for more details.

Classic craftsmanship.

Old Man Gilberts Words of the old:

I know that probably what I write here is just common sense, but sometimes when we talk at the retirement home, we have found out that we help each other with just saying out loud plain everyday logic.

A good night’s sleep. You know how you sometimes can wake up early in the morning, or lay awake before you sleep at night and the subject of your mind is something sad. Concerns maybe of your friends, your family or even yourself, no matter what the topic is or what your concern is about, do not let them put you too much down. Everybody has them, and everybody does this, it is a human thing, and it is really not age related. It does not get better or worse as time goes by. So let your thoughts run freely and do not try to stop them, this often makes you focus even more and then they can grow more negative, just let them run, they will turn good, or maybe you suddenly see something humorous. A easy trick, if the above does not work, is to rotate the side you sleep on, and at the same time change your thoughts, think of something you look forward too. For our age, it often is just a bench with a little view, somewhere in the shade of a bright sun, and the possibility of sitting in it next day. The best is still to let your mind work things over, and find its own peace.

Anger into humor. It is difficult, but practice makes champion, every time you find yourself upset, or getting angry, try to whistle, for some reason it is nearly impossible to stay angry and whistle at the same time, try it next time.

Achievements. If you set your self big goals that you cannot reach, you still are almost certain to get further on your way, than if you just always set your self realistic ones.

Decency. It is not a style, it is a way of life, try it, and karma (whether you believe in it or not) will reward you sooner or later somehow.

Attention. Be aware of people around you, sometimes to lend your jacket, or a kind word, the opening of a door for someone, can make a difference for them, and have a positive effect long after.
